ABSTRACT
Our experience with dermis-fat free flaps and conventional reconstruction procedures for 78 patients with Romberg’s Disease is presented. The groin flap was used to increase soft-tissue volume in 60 patients, followed by the scapular flap and the latissimus dorsi. To achieve a better contour, secondary procedures such as fat defatting, temporal fascial flaps to give volume to orbital and temporal regions, cartilage and bone grafts, orthognathic surgery, and other conventional aesthetic procedures were performed. Excellent results were achieved in 90% of the mildly deformed patients, in 66% of moderately, and in 40% of the severely affected patients. Good results were obtained in 10% of the mildly, in 25% of the moderately and in 30% of the severely affected patients. Poor results were obtained in 30% of the severe cases.
