ABSTRACT
Despite the fact that hyperbaric oxygen therapy has been used for thirty years, it is still very controversial world-wide. In Mexico we have limited experience with it, mainly because it has been abandoned for many years, and its use and applications have not been well disseminated. This review covers the most relevant basic aspects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, including its mechanisms of action and applications in modern medicine, especially in plastic surgery.
