ABSTRACT
The usual concern in blood donors is the time in extending the donation waiting time, in the medical literature is 60 to 180 minutes, with a median value of reference on 90 minutes. In this paper we report the application of the use of quality program «Just in Time» to improve the waiting time in the donation process of whole blood. The structure facilities, equipment, materials and standards of the waiting time were adapted to the program. The study sample was 6,001 donors treated in 9 to 10 weeks, in the January to April 2011. The information of the process is obtained with the system that was scheduled for Hexabank times T1: the register to the hematic tests. T5: tags of phlebotomy delivery to output records. The results helped identify some of the incidents with prolonged T1 donation process of whole blood related with the human resources. The times T1 were mostly within 11 to 27 minutes or were lower; the values abnormalities of the «excess» above the waiting standard time over the progress of the study disappeared. T5 for most of the results on Monday to Friday were less of 48 minutes and with a tendency to improve, unrelated to a greater or lesser number of donors attended. In T5, Monday to Friday high values of the excess above the waiting standard deviation declined and without a relationship to a greater or lesser number of donors attended. In the weekends with a larger number of donors compared to the year 2009 attended, in 50% showed a significant improvement to the standard value in T5.REFERENCES
