ABSTRACT
Migraine is a prevalent condition in young, otherwise healthy people, with a minimal number of patients receiving appropriate preventative therapy. Preventative treatment with daily medication is necessary for patients who have two or more attacks per week or whose attacks respond poorly to abortive medication. Often multiple agents providing different mechanisms of action may be needed. It is essential that patients use their acute medication even when on prophylaxis but Iess than two times per week on an ongoing basis. It is imperative to be patient with preventative outcome because it can take weeks to establish.
