ABSTRACT
A possible complication after performing a surgical cleft palate correction is the presence of an oronasal fistula, which in most cases will require another operation. In this paper we propose the utilization of a mucoperiosteal flap of an anterior pedicle, raised from the hard palate to use for a nasal lining on the soft palate, this will provide a better anatomical continuity where the hard and soft palate come together and diminish the tension providing a greater horizontal distance at the nasal cover. This also avoids the juncture between suture lines with the muscular and oral layers. The application of this flap is for patients with cleft type I or II Veau classification. We used this flap with twelve patients with no incidence of oronasal fistula in this group.
