ABSTRACT
The sterilization process is a complex activity which involves a series of intermediate steps to obtain safe and risk-free materials and equipment. The objective of the study is to validate the vapor sterilization process as an indicator of the quality of nurse care and detect deviations from the same. In the equipment and surgical sterilization center services “CEYE” (Central de Equipos y Esterilización) and hospitalization of the Instituto Nacional de Cardiología “Ignacio Chávez” a prospective, observational, and descriptive investigation protocol about the vapor sterilization process was designed due to the fact that nosocomial infections constitute a critical attention point, for all these encompass. The study was carried out in two stages; in both an evaluation identification (cédula) was applied which consists of three variables: equipment sanitation, equipment preparation and sterilization cycle control through the control of 18 indicators. A direct observation of each procedure was realized in morning, afternoon and night shifts; in the first stage the personnel didn’t receive training and 43 procedures were observed which correspond to 10% of processes that are carried out in a trimester. Based on the obtained results a situational diagnose is made and a tactical plan is designed for the continuous improvement of the efficiency index of the vapor sterilization process. Posterior to this, a second stage of the study is carried out, 42 evaluation formats are applied in the designated services and shifts. A descriptive statistic was used for the result analysis reaching a standard of partial execution of 79.5% in the first stage and 91.81% of excellent execution in the second stage.REFERENCES
