Level of health self care on workers from a medical setting

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The health education was begun on the world a long time ago. Prehispanics writers are references about education for youngs and preservation of the health for all people. Health self care is the pathway to follow for everybody who is interested on a full time life and ideal elderly.
Objective: To describe the actions what workers on 40's and older take to apply the health self care.
Material and methods: A described survey was answered by 138 workers of different laboral positions. The 32 items survey was investigating about the people and the interest related to medical control, exercising, nutrition, relaxing, addictions, sexuality, as well as about personal diseases. Descriptive statistics was used.
Results: Most of the workers were women between 40-49 years old. The self health care was optimal in 36.9%, sufficient in 62.4% and insufficient in 0.7%. It was observed that females are more conscious and interested on their health self care. The 26.8% of people were optimal and they were particularly carefully about their nutrition and sufficient in 37.7%. Those females showed a high interest on their health, medical controls and exercising. Health workers were is the most carefully people in this area. The most frecuently diseases reported were obesity, arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus.
Discussion: Almost all people showed interest for one or more actions in conection with personal health and this is coincident with all those reported in other studies, showing that people whose age is between 40 to 60 years old were the most interested on this subject.
Conclusion: Health self care was sufficient in health workers; specially on females they use more actions for health self care than others do.
