Prevalence and severity of chronic periodontal disease in adolescents and adults

ABSTRACT

A descriptive epidemiological, observational and transversal study was conducted in patients who attended the Integral Clinic of the Academic Unit of Dentistry of the State University of Nayarit in the period from January to May, with the aim of determining the periodontal status and establish their links with existing local factors. It was determined the prevalence and severity of periodontal disease by applying the rate of need for periodontal treatment in the community, their categorizations were related with local and systemic factors explored during the study. The prevalence was high, linked to the age, occupation, and level of schooling. In addition to their smoking habit and the degree of oral hygiene it was associated with the already established disease; the most systemic pathology associated with the periodontal disease was diabetes, and alcoholism, without different statistical into genere.
