ABSTRACT
Objetive: evaluate and compare the efficacy of Clorhexidine (CHX) 1% varnish and sodium Fluoride (NaF) 5% Varnish like topic agents preventive of caries disease in pediatric patients.
Introduction: Decay is a multifactorial disease that results in a softening of the hard tissues of the tooth. The first molar permanent erupciona between 5 and 7 years of age, has no predecessor and is one of the most teeth affected by the disease.
Materials and methods: for this randomized comparative study included 52 children between 6 and 8 years old. The ceo was used to select patients with a higher rate of decay to 3 and at least one permanent first molar tooth decay free to undertake the implementation of preventative agent. We applied randomly CHX or NaF measuring PCO at 1, 3 and 6 months.
Results: In the group treated with fluoride was PCO reported a baseline 3. 78 and post-6 months this figure increased to 4.47 (p=.03). In group B treated with Chlorhexidine saw a PCO baseline 3. 72 and later to six months of observation this figure increased to 4. 23 (p =. 60).
Conclusions: the present study found that in group A treated with NaF there a statistically significant difference between the rate of decay and the basal rate of decay compared to the end result of the rate of decay and the basal rate of decay final group B is treatment with CHX, however these results are not sufficient to demonstrate that the CHX was more effective than NaF as a preventative agent of decay due to the results between the two groups were very similar although in group B and were not significant difference.
