ABSTRACT
Pouchitis is the main complication of Ileal Pouch Anal Anastomosis. About 30% of patients with ulcerative colitis will require this or another operative procedure specifically when the disease is refractory to medical approaches. It manifests with a wide variety of symptoms as well as endoscopic and histologic findings. The response to antibiotics is quite important and only a minority of patients will need other medical treatments or surgery.
