ABSTRACT
Introduction: the knowledge on trauma is a priority in the continuous medical education.
Objective: the objective of present paper is to research the level of updating of basic knowledges on trauma in the family physicians to identify the needs of capitation.
Methods: a questionnaire on the basic concepts of trauma was distributed among the family physicians determining the final qualification. The qualifications from whose have received courses of updating in trauma were compared and that from whom were considered as trained to care a trauma with the remainder. It was determined the questions ratio with percentages de correct answer > 60 % and > 80 %.
Results: sixty one questionnaires were applied and the qualification interval was of 15 to 60 (average 40.7, SD ± 9.51, 95 % CI 39.51-41.89). Average was higher among who received an updating on trauma (41.8 versus 18.3; p= 0.004). Six questions had a percentage of correct answers > 60 % and 5 (25 %) > 80 %.
Conclusions: not all the person polled are trained to care a polytraumatized patients in its health area and although there is an acceptable level of theoretical knowledges, not all are updated, thus, it is necessary a high level of training.
