ABSTRACT
One of the current problems of greater importance in perinatal medicine is the preterm
labor, because besides elevating the perinatal morbidity and mortality, it causes
neurological damage and affects growing in the newborns. In this paper not only the
value of cervicometry is highlighted as a screening method in population with high risk
of preterm newborns, but also its importance to predict the occurrence threat of the
last condition when uterine contractions exist, reason why the appropriate technique,
approaches, indications and the advantages of this procedure are described, as well as
the cut level for the cervical length is determined in its different modalities. As a
result, a care protocol for pregnants with prematurity risk based on the use of
cervicometry was introduced, which is considered a valuable screening tool in the
selected population.
