ABSTRACT
Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is a recently described syndrome is considered a transitional phase between healthy cognitive aging and dementia.The differences in the cognitive profile and clinical progression among individualswith mild cognitive impairment are generally recognized. However, recent evidence also suggests that etiologic heterogeneity among individuals with MCI may be higher than previously reported in various studies today. In this exploratory study was assessed in 220 people between 45-94 years of age, the presence of MCI and the relationship age, sex and educational level as a tool using the Mini-mental State Examination of Folstein concluded after the study results need to increase the attention given to people with mild cognitive impairment for whom treatment options are being evaluated may help to decrease the rate of progression to dementia.
The high prevalence of MCI in the Mexican population and its relationship with chronic diseases common in old age, says the importance of early identification of both conditions in the population from 45 years of age.
