ABSTRACT
Androgen deficiency or low testosterone syndrome in the aging male, frequently referred to as andropause, is characterized by signs and symptoms associated with aging that are partially the result of low levels of total testosterone. These are well-known symptoms that form part of the loss of capacities that are associated with age, but they are not routinely included in the patient’s medical history.
The present article attempts to describe the clinical symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and new associations of androgen deficiency in the aging male with pathologies such as erectile dysfunction, obesity, and metabolic syndrome, by reviewing current literature on the subject.
