ABSTRACT
Objetive. Evaluate the clinical effectiveness of local topic minocycline on periodontal therapy.
Introduction. Antibiotics are just an alternative treatment when conventional periodontal therapy is not enough to obtain the spected results. Establish adequated dosification and concentration on topic form is necessary to achieve a maximum therapeutic benefit. Hydrochlorate Minocycline on gel presentation has a high endurance, liposubility, broad-spectrum, minor phototoxity and anti-inflammatory effect, also inhibits bone resorption, prostaglandins synthesis and reduces the gingival index and probing depth.
Methods. Eighteen patients between 27 to 66 years old systemically healthy, both genders, that presented moderated to advanced chronic periodontal disease, with a probing depth of ›4mm. Two measurements were made first at the patients check-in, and the last after 21 days.
Results. 221 dentary organs were analyzed with an observed reduction of plaque index of 62% at the beginning and 23% after 21 days also a reduction of bleeding on probing index from 94% to 28% after 21 days. Pocket depth had a reduction on mesio and disto-vestibular as in mesio and disto-palatine sites.
Discussion. There were significant results on the climical parameters of the present study with a reliable reduction on plaque index, bleeding on probing index and pocket depth.
