ABSTRACT
This is the result of a cross sectional epidemiological study, in order to determine the prevalence
of some acute gingival diseases treated in dental emergencies in the Integral Diagnostic Center
Los Godos, in Maturin city, Monagas State in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela during the
period from January 2009 to December 2009. The variables studied were: acute gingival diseases,
age, sex and risk factors. The results show that acute gingival diseases in dental emergencies
demonstrated a prevalence of 30.3% compared to all emergencies and recurrent aphthous
stomatitis between gingival diseases was the predominant with 63.8% of behavior. Furthermore
the status of oral hygiene in patients experiencing acute gingival diseases proved to be the risk
factor with highest incidence.
