ABSTRACT
Introduction: Producing vaccines to treat patients with rabies ,besides being costly, is not the best way to fight a disease that kills one person every 10 minutes, mainly in underdeveloped countries, Instead, more attention should be focused on immunizing the animals carrying the disease. Objective: Assessing the Program of Rabies Prevention and Control in the province of Sancti Spiritus. 2009. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted. The population and the sample were composed of 1269 persons injured by animals in the period of study. The variables used were indicators of structure criteria, process and results. Results: In general the structure criteria did not meet the 50.0% of the indicators established by the program, so a por result was achieved. 8 indicators were assessed of a total of 10 in the process criteria of this program, with a general result of middling (62.5%). The outcome criteria was assessed as middling with 66.6%. Generally speaking, the Program of Rabies Prevention and Control in the year 2009 achieved a middling final result (60%). Conclusions: In general, the program received a regular assessment, taking into account the results of the indicators and the assessment of each criteria.REFERENCES
