Transfacial approach for treatment of frontoethmoidal meningoencephaloceles

ABSTRACT

In this paper, the author presents his experience with treatment of patients with frontoethmoidal meningoceles and meningoencephaloceles. Methods and procedures used for these patients are outlined. Patient clinical characteristics are described and classified into three different stages in accordance to clinical characteristics. The surgical procedure established for each stage is described. Procedures were carried out fundamentally through transfacial approach in one surgical stage and performing facial feature reconstruction considering measures and proportions with anthropometric method described originally by the author. The results as well as the complications observed in 86 patients with average follow-up of 4 years 5 months are presented.
