ABSTRACT
This paper explains the anatomic and physiologic mechanisms related to the tactile perception, from the corporal sensations (where the cutaneous receptors participate) to motor and somatosensory cortical areas. Theory and methodology approximations like the psychophysics and neurophysiology that have been used to investigate and evaluate somesthetic functions. Somatosensory problems are described, where the background and implications of tactile agnosia are analyzed. Finally, different behavior disorders that affect tactile perception are discussed.
