ABSTRACT
Background: The emergence of the communicative approach in Cuba brought about a qualitative improvement in teaching English as a foreign language, however, there are still shortcomings that prevent proper communication in that language, which includes reading comprehension freshmen year of medical school. Objective: To develop a methodological sequence to develop reading comprehension skills in students of first year of medical studies at the University of Medical Sciences of Sancti Spiritus. Development: Based on the determination of a theoretical reference on the subject, as well as the shortcomings detected in the process, we developed a methodological sequence on reading comprehension for first year students of medicine as a systemic, flexible and inclusive. Was the classroom practice with the inclusion of authentic texts and activities arising from these, in which he worked as a process understanding. Conclusions: The development of a methodological sequence under the principle of flexibility with a systemic and integrated into the classroom context yielded a better development and learning in the reading process.REFERENCES
