Complete cleft palate. A case report

ABSTRACT
Background: Cleft palate or palate fissure is a congenital malformation that affects the craniofacial skull, disrupting vital functions such as chewing, speech and swallowing. It appears in a 25% cases individually and in 50% cases when associated with cleft lip.
Case presentation: Due to its rare occurrence, a case is presented of a patient with a complete or major extension cleft palate that totally communicates the oral cavity with the nasal one. A partial acrylic upper denture with palatal obturator was made. This device hasn’t been reported before in the rural health area of the Faustino Pérez Hernández Polyclinic of Taguasco municipality.
Conclusions: The patient was rehabilitated through a partial acrylic upper denture with a palatal obturator. In this way, she recovered her aesthetics, and improved her speech, chewing and swallowing functions.
