ABSTRACT
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease whose consequences on neonatal health are preventable through an early primary attention and adequate treatment, with a relatively low cost-effective relationship. Non the less, accessibility to health care is not the only determining factor for prevention of fetal infection, since other social and behavioural factors are difficult to control. This is a case report in which, even though the diagnosis of syphilis during pregnancy was made on time, social factors from the expecting mother made it difficult to give complete treatment, resulting in the need to study the neonate and treat as a probable congenital syphilis.
