ABSTRACT
Ocular trauma is defined as the trauma caused by blunt or penetrating mechanisms on the eyeball and its peripheral structures, causing various degrees of tissue damage with temporary or permanent commitment to the vision. Ocular trauma is a common reason for consultation in the emergency services around the world, occupying about 3% of total. In addition, this health problem is a major cause of disability and partial and sometimes total loss of productivity and working hours. Eye injuries are a major cause of loss of visual acurity in young people. Early diagnosis and initial approach in the appropriate primary care is essential for a better prognosis.
