ABSTRACT
Introduction: It is determined that the medicine studies characterize by a constant and flood academic exigency that demand of the student efforts of adaptation which they are translated in the development of high levels of stress during its training, with risk of deterioration of their mental health. The objective of this study was to evaluate the presence of minor psychiatric pathology in students of first to fourth year of the medicine School Jose Maria Vargas of the Central University of Venezuela, through the questionnaire of Goldberg, which is used to evaluate self perceive health.Materials and Methods: A study of cross section of descriptive type was made, taking a representative sample by random selection from a population constituted by all the students of the Medicine School "Jose Maria the Vargas" who attend of first to fourth year. As instrument of data collection was used a voluntary survey, self administered, anonymous, composed by: The Questionnaire of Goldberg, in its modality of 12 items, settling down a point of cut over as “cases " that are considered people with minor psychiatric pathology, and below as “noncases" that are considered healthy people.
Results: They were included in a data base being tabs and processed with Excel2003®. It was determined that the incidence of minor psychiatric pathology is of a 57.62% being observed that is significantly superior in women (p=0.017).
Conclusion: The findings suggest that due to the high incidence of minor psychiatric pathology the population in study would be helped if a stress preventive program is established.
