ABSTRACT
Objective. To know the frequency of metabolic disorders in neonates at risk. Material and methods. Information was obtained prospectively in 13 newborn children with problems that produce metabolic disorders. The newborns were examined as usually, and a sample of blood was obtained in order to determine the concentration of glucose, sodium, potassium and calcium. Results. Six neonates had hypoglycemia, 4 hiponatremia and 6 hipocalcemia, alone or associated to asphyxia, prematurity, postmaturity, intestinal atresia, isoimmunization and sepsis. Conclusions. The metabolic disorders observed in these neonates, particularly the relative hiponatremia and the hypocalcemia, require special attention in the premature children, especially in those that have septicemia and hipoxia in the first day of life.REFERENCES
