ABSTRACT
Thyroid cancer is the most common form of endocrine neoplasia, representing 1% of all malignant tumors, and a clinical condition that requires multidisciplinary management. Recent statistics have reported a higher incidence in women between 45-50 years in a variety of presentations, including: follicular adenomas, follicular, papillary and anaplasic carcinomas. Invasion adjacent structures such as trachea and/or esophagus is observed in 7-15% of all cases. We present a case of a 75 year old female with diagnosis of papillary carcinoma invading trachea and recurrent laryngeal nerve. Emphasis is made in airway management with special interest in non programmed tracheoplasty highlighting the role of the anesthesiologist in the postoperative outcome.
