ABSTRACT
Dieulafoy´s lesion is an unusual cause for massive gastrointestinal hemorrhage, mainly located at the stomach, but also diagnosed in other sites of the gastrointestinal tract. The vascular abnormality consists of the presence of persistently large caliber arteries in the submucosa and in some cases in the mucosa. Before endoscopic diagnosis and therapy, this pathology had an 80% mortality rate, which now has decreased to 13%. Injection, ablation and mechanical techniques have been successfully applied. No method has demonstrated to be superior to the others. The therapeutic method choice is considered according to the endoscopist´s preference and experience.
