ABSTRACT
Diabetes mellitus is a disease of high prevalence in our country, with complications that cause a great impact on patient autonomy. It is a public health problem, both by the large number of deaths it causes, and by the limitations and the consequences on life´s quality of patients. It is a disease with a high economic cost, which grows more every year because more patients are being diagnosed. But not only is the direct economic costs of illness, because they are also complications like ulcers, amputations, neuropathy, loss of protective sense, among others, to further increase this figure. That´s why apart from glycemic control, it is vital that we find complementary therapies to prevent, reduce or treat these complications more effectively, thus improving the quality of life and autonomy of patients, leading to a decrease in the costs involved this disease. In the next review, we introduce a therapy that has been used for several years with very positive results. This is infrared therapy, a noninvasive, painless, without complications, which has come to bring major changes in diabetic´s lives.
