ABSTRACT
Krukenberg tumor is a metastasic signet ring cell adenocarcinoma of the ovary that is usually originated from a malignant lesion of the gastrointestinal tract. Although it is an infrequent pathology, it is important to be familiar with its epidemiologic characteristics and the current knowledge about its pathogenesis, as well as its clinical manifestations, diagnostic methods, prognosis and treatment because it is an important entity to consider as a differential diagnosis when evaluating ovarian masses. Awareness of the features mentioned above orientates the clinician when facing this pathology, preventing tumor misclassification and improper clinical management.
