ABSTRACT
Aeromonas spp. are anaerobic Gram negative bacillae. They are widely distributed in the environment. They typically cause gastroenteritis, but can occasionally produce extraintestinal infections, such as skin and soft tissue infections.
A 74 year old male, occasional gardener, complains with a painful lesion of the hand of three months of evolution. He had been treated unsuccessfully with various antibiotics.
Aeromonas spp. were isolated from the skin culture.
