Lymphadenitis due to BCG in a 23-day old newborn

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Immunization with BCG gives reactions like lymph node enlargement. We describe a case of lymphadenitis.Clinical case: Newborn with weight of 3,310 kg newborn 49 cm tall at 25 days of age, 37.5 °C temperature irritability, inexplicable constant crying and moaning was detected physical examination revealed BCG’s injection site in pustule stage, in right armpit a mass with 3 cm in diameter, firm and fixated to deep tissues, painful to touch. Clinical diagnosis was BCG’s non suppurative regional lymphadenitis. Only analgesic an anti-inflammatory treatment was administered with total recovery at 45 days of age.
Discussion: Suppurative or non suppurative BCG regional lymphadenitis is present in basis of strain, dosage, age at immunization and technique in application of the vaccine. Present case was immunized with japanese strain. The relevance of this case is the youngest case report with this reaction.
