ABSTRACT
Introduction: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age. It has been reported that women with PCOS have an increased risk of obstetric and perinatal complications.
Objective: Know the obstetric and perinatal outcomes of Mexican women with history of infertility and PCOS.
Material and methods: Cross sectional study, we included women with infertility and diagnosis of PCOS according to the Rotterdam criteria who achieved pregnancy, with unique product, prenatal care and the resolution in the National Institute of Perinatology in Mexico City, from January 2003 to April 2011. We excluded women with concomitant endocrinopathies. We analyzed the main maternal and fetal complications.
Results: The frequency of maternal complications were gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) 24.1%, abortion 15.5%, impaired glucose tolerance 13%, preterm delivery 10.7%, premature rupture of membranes 10.7% and pregnancy induced hypertension 9.6%.
Conclusions: Mexican women with a history of infertility and PCOS have a higher frequency of GDM. The rest of obstetric and perinatal outcomes were similar to those reported in women without PCOS.
