ABSTRACT
The main reason of the study was to evaluate menopause female patients, and their femoral neck’s mineral density, among 44-55 years of age. In a six months densitometry study were registered 490 cases in three different cities of the country. This were splitted up in three groups, the first group among 40-45 year old range, the second group among 46-50 year old range, and the third group from 51-55 year old range in none of the cases it was specifically investigated the presence or absence risk factors of osteoporosis. The study results revealed that the first group (40-45 years) encountered osteopenia in a 29.91% and osteoporosis in a 2.56%; on the second group (46-50 years) the osteopenia had an increment to 42% and the osteoporosis had also an increment to 6.8%. Finally the third group encountered an osteopenia increase of 6.7% in relation to the second group and 18.79% in relation to the first group (48.7%), and an osteoporosis increase of 9.95% in relation to the second group and 14.19% in relation to the first group (16.75%).
We considered of great importance the evaluation of hip bone mass during the first menopause years; since one of every six women suffer from hip fractures, which it has been determined the worst and most devastating complication on this sickness.
