Macrodystrophia lipomatosa. A case report

ABSTRACT

Macrodystrophia lipomatosa is an uncommon form of localized gigantism that is recognized from birth and is characterized by slow and progressive growth, as well as mesenchymal tissue overgrowth and disproportionate increase of fibroadipose tissue. A case of a 34 year old patient with macrodystrophia lipomatosa of important growth (which started at the age of 21) located in the ulnar side of his right arm to the hand is presented, with amputation of the fourth and fifth fingers. The stimulus persisted and four years later it was necessary to amputate the third finger because of the ulnar side growth. X-rays showed disproportionate growth, osseous hypertrophy and articular anchilosis. Histopatology reported generalized fibrolipomatose tissue.
