ABSTRACT
Objective: The objective of this study is to discover the features by imaging of 3 ACR BI-RADS category 3 findings and histopathological report thereof.
Materials and method: from 2,281 patients who undergoing mastography diagnostic from January to December 2006, 552 were ACR BI-RADs category 3; 332 files were located.
Results: We found category 3 in 26% of mastographies diagnosed performed - Mastography findings were: 71% nodules, 15 % micro calcifications and 19% focal asymmetries. 80.8% was complemented by breast ultrasound. Diagnostic biopsy was performed on 16.9% of the cases, finding malignancy in 1.12%. Malignant histopathological diagnostics were shown in patients with solid nodules or asymmetrical density and personal history of breast cancer.
Conclusions: Malignant diagnostics were found in patients with personal history of breast cancer, so in these patients closer monitoring is recommended. Mastography findings should be regarded with greater force than the ultrasonographics, in order to grant final categorization. Diagnostic mastography supported by breast ultrasound improves diagnostic, accuracy in solid nodules and dense breasts.
