ABSTRACT
The hemogram or blood cell count is one of the tests that is more requested in clinical laboratories, and without any doubt, is the laboratory test that provides the most information for the physician in the evaluation of a patient. From the technical point of view there are six types of hemograms, starting with the traditional ones that are processed by manual methodology up to the most sophisticated that are performed by electronic methods that use a combination of technologies. Criteria that define the types of hemograms are established and the parameters and characteristics of each one are analyzed according to the methodology being used, their reference values, clinical indications and critical issues. The physician must request the hemogram that allows him to have confidence in the reported parameters and the clinical laboratory must make the technological investment that will produce the most precise and accurate results.
