ABSTRACT
The cost-benefit difference upon treating burnt patients through precocious and tardy surgery was determined. Two groups of nine patients each were formed: the first group was treated on the third day through tangential excision of the burnt tissue and application of skin grafts and the second group was treated with excision and skin grafts application on the eighth day. Upon comparing results between the two groups, it was found that patients operated on precociously obtained greater benefits than those operated on tardily, not having complications (p ‹ 0.002, OR:31), having shorter hospital stay time (p ‹ 0.001), reducing both number of surgeries and attention cost. Precocious surgical treatment on burnt patient with extensions between 5 and 25% in our study avoided complications, reduced hospital stay time and cost.
