ABSTRACT
Introduction: Breast cancer is one of the main causes of mortality in our country. The use of mastography as screening method has decreased mortality from breast cancer, being the study of election in high-risk women; magnetic resonance and ultrasound are useful complementary methods.
Diagnosis: Mastography is also the method of election for diagnosis. For staging and evaluation of the response to treatment, breast magnetic resonance, nuclear scan and gammagraphy and positron emission tomography CT studies play a primary role. This article highlights main breast cancer aspects and the role of the different imaging useful methods for detection, diagnosis, staging, and evaluation of the response to the breast cancer treatment.
