ABSTRACT

Introduction: The appropriate communication between treating physicians and the radiologists is considered relevant in the high quality medical practice, because among others, it enables to exchange opinions on referred patients, as well as to obtain the clinical necessary information, because lacking of said information can lead to faulty or erroneous interpretations.
A shared responsibility of the radiologist exists to inform the treating physician when he/she observes relevant radiological findings or that require urgent care; this communication many times should be additional to the radiological report, either by phone or electronic means. Radiologist, on the other hand, should collect the information of patients that refer to the radiology department.
Conclusion: The radiologist also has the obligation of communicating directly to the patient the important findings or of seriousness to guarantee that the information arrives to its physician. This communication should be carried out openly, transparent and with sensibility. These communication concepts are part of the physician-patient relationship and they are contemplated in the medical professionalism of high level.
