ABSTRACT
Cystic-like structures similar to xenomas containing ovoid or piriform organisms were observed in brain and kidney of a one-month-old rabbit. Different dyes such as H&E, PAS, toluidine blue and trichrome blue were tested. Trichrome blue yielded the best results in terms of specificity, resolution and confirmation of microsporidia spores. This dye is easily adaptable to paraffin-embedded samples by not requiring additional equipment; it is rapid, cheap and could be used as a confirmatory technique for other microsporidiosis.
