ABSTRACT
Objective: To explain the PEC-CT study results in five patients with Sister Mary Joseph´s nodule diagnosis.
Introduction: Julia Dempsey, who was born in 1856 in Salamanca, New York, accor ding to some authors, or in Rochester, Minnesota, according to other authors, entered the order as Sister Mary Joseph at 22 years old and was transferred to the Saint Mary´s Hospital in Rochester where she was the first person identifying a periumbilical nodule as the only sign of intra-abdominal cancer existence. Sometimes, this is the only evidence that a malign neoplasia exists and it indicates a bad prognosis.
Clinic cases: Following five cases exemplifying and describing the behavior of the Sister Mary Joseph´s nodule in PETCT studies with
18FDG, are shown.
