ABSTRACT
Objective: To demonstrate usefulness of the computerized tomography (CT) in cases of chronic infected ear, where the possibility that the patient has a cholesteatoma should be considered, and that through exploration and clinics is difficult to demonstrate.
Methods and materials: CT studies requested by otorhino laringology from Hospital Espanol de México were reviewed, as well as those patients sent to our service in Laboratorio Médico del Chopo, who showed chronic infected ear, eardrum membrane rupture, and multiple secretions, these studies were carried out with different high definition ct equipment; with slices thickness each of 1 x .5 mm in axial an coronal planes directly.
Results: CT ear studies were reviewed, that were diagnosed as cholesteatoma which were filed in this service, by selecting the most demonstrative cases, and that were corroborated with the othorrinolaringolgy surgeon.
Conclusion and analysis: Cases shown result clear cases of the vias the cholesteatomatous bag uses and bone changes demonstrated by CT, which result the best method for the exploration of changes produced by this pathology.
