ABSTRACT
Objective: To evaluate effectiveness of two therapeutic schemes to prevent postoperative nausea and vomit in patients who were subjected to hearing and mastoid’s surgery.
Material and methods: It was carry out a comparative study to determine effectiveness of difenidol vs ondansetron vs metoclopramide. Ninety patients sample were studied, both sex, from 20 to 50 years old, ASA scale 1 or 2, they were subjected to ear surgery and mastoid surgery under general anesthesia. The patients were randomized in three groups: group I, treated with metoclopramide 10 mg IV unique dose; second group treated with ondansetron 8 mg IV, and group III treated with difenidol 40 mg IV, 10 minutes before they were extubated.
Results: There was significant difference between difenidol versus metoclopramide and ondansetron in the handling of nausea. There was not significant difference about vomit effectiveness among the groups.
Conclusions: Difenidol is effective for the handling and control for nausea and vomit compared to metoclopramide or ondansetron during postoperative period.
