ABSTRACT
Objective: To know the correlation between carpal tunnel diameter (measured by ultrasonography) and neuroconduction of median nerve.Patients and method: Thirty subjects of external consultation of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of National Medical Center 20 de Noviembre were selected and divided into two groups (with carpal tunnel syndrome and control group), and carpal ultrasonographic measurement was done in all participants, besides registering sensorial and motor neuroconduction of median nerve.
Results: There were not significant differences among valued obtained by ultrasound in both groups; however, values registered in neuroconduction of median nerve were statistically different in each group. A moderate correlation was found between the area of median nerve and values registered in neuroconduction studies.
Discussion: There were no differences about structural characteristics of carpal tunnel in both groups, which suggests that, besides structural elements of carpal tunnel, there are other factors implied in the origin of this illness.
