ABSTRACT
Objective: To compare the frequency of the apolipoprotein B-100 XbaI gene polymorphism in patients with and without gallstones by cholesterol.Patients and method: Methodology design was cross-sectional, comparative, prospective and prolective observational. Studied population was divided into two groups: group 1 (n = 101) included patients with gallstones by cholesterol and group 2 (n = 101) included controls without gallstones. For the measurement of the polymorphism, we used PCR and RFLP. Statistical analysis for means was done with Student’s t-test, frequencies by square Chi, and association measurement OR.
Results: The X-X- genotypic frequencies were of 40.6% in the group 1 (patients) and 33.7% in the group 2 (controls), with p = 0.191; X+X- genotypic frequencies were of 50.5 and 49.5% in groups 1 and 2, respectively, with p = 0.5; and X+X+ genotypic frequencies were 2 8.9 and 16.8%, respectively, with p = 0.070. The X- allelic frequency in the group 1 was of 65.8% and in the group 2 was of 58.4%; the X+ allelic frequency were 34.2 and 41.6% in the groups 1 and 2, respectively, with p = 0.075. The OR was 1.34 (95% IC: 0.75-2.3) with X-X-; 1.04 (95% IC: 0.59-1.8) with X+X-; 0.48 (95% IC: 0.204-1.14) with X+X+; 0.72 (95% IC: 0.48-1.09) with X- allelic; all of them were no significant (p ‹ 0.05).
Conclusions: Genotypic and allelic frequencies of XbaI gene polymorphism of apolipopretein B-100 did not showed significant differences between patients with gallstones and healthy controls, therefore there is not association between the polymorphism and gallstones by cholesterol in studied patients.
