ABSTRACT
This fracture have an incidence of 280/100,000 patient/year, and is more frequent in women than in men. In the woman it becomes more common as of the 45 years, nevertheless in the man his incidence stays constant, independent of the age. The exact incidence of distal radial fracture (DRF) in Mexico is not known. The DRF in the woman is associated to moderate traumatisms, whereas in the man is produced by serious traumatisms in approximately 50% of the cases. The risk of presenting a DRF throughout the life is for the woman of 16% and the man of 2.5%. Also an increase of the rate of incidence with the years has been observed, that seems to stay stable in the last decade. Also, the DRF has been demonstrated predicting of other fractures of osteoporotic origin, as much vertebral as of hip. Although the DRF does not present an important morbidity, it is demonstrated in the studies that its treatment presents considerable costs and complications that are due to consider. The DRF has been considered a fracture of low morbidity, nevertheless this fracture, mainly in the woman, must alert to us and start up the necessary studies and mechanisms for the valuation of a bony metabolic disease.
