ABSTRACT
Term small bowel hemorrhage, of dark origin and hidden, refers to the bleeding in the digestive tract occurring between distal duodenum and ileum; routine endoscopic studies (esophagogastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy) do not identify it. Patients with small bowel hemorrhage represent a great diagnostic challenge, due to the history of multiple episodes of bleeding without identification of origin site. It represents up to 10% of all hemorrhages of digestive tract. Polyps are included among the benign tumors of small bowel, they appear at any age, with more frequency from 50 to 60 years of age, and may be observed as multiple or isolated lesions, the latest are little common. Polyps may be divided into hyperplastic and adenomas. Bleeding of small bowel polyps is a little frequent complication, compared to that of colon polyps. Diagnostic suspicion depends on patient’s age, study protocol and clinical condition. This paper reports the case of a 22-year-old male patient, assisted at Regional Hospital of Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico.REFERENCES
