Social Support Inventory for Pregnants

ABSTRACT
An inventory to assess the grade of satisfaction felt by women regard the social support received during their pregnancy is offered. The system of employed variables for its construction and results obtained when applied to 271 pregnant women, residents from the Metropolitan Area of Caracas, Venezuela, with ages between 14 and 42 year-old, is presented. Results revealed important variations in the percentage of pregnant women that presented depressive symptoms in relation to the absence of the partner, felt unsatisfaction of the women regard the social support received and the stratum in which they belong to. Severity of symptoms was significantly associated the partner absence and the unsatisfaction with the received support. It was concluded that the inventory allow to obtain information about some needs surged during pregnancy, to know if these were attended or not, to know the grade of satisfaction experimented regard the social support received and to identify the most significant persons of the social network.
