ABSTRACT
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are caused by heart and blood vessels diseases and seen as a pandemic that affects the general population. The objective of this study is to describe the characterization of cardiovascular risk factors in patients who received attention at Caimalito, Pereira, Colombia. A cross sectional study in patients with identified cardiovascular risk was developed with the application of clinical history. The population was 180 people, 67 people between 5 and 13 years 30 men (44.7%), 37 women (55.3%), and 113 people over 13 years, 33 men (18.3%) 80 women (44.4%). Patients over 13 years found that 51% were located in a BMI range between 18 and 25, and 26.1% were over 25 and 30. 103 people of the total population reported to have pathological conditions. Conditions related to cardiovascular risk were Hypertension (28), Dyslipidemia (9) and Diabetes Mellitus (2). 41 people were smokers and 15 consume alcoholic beverages. Drug use was identified in 108 consultants, with a higher prevalence of antihypertensive drugs (47) and Lipid lowering (6), in lesser extent Antiplatelet agents (5), Anti-anginal (2) and oral Antidiabetic (2). The implementation of public health programs to control modifiable risk factors is essential to reduce chronic diseases and CVD prevalence.
