Abuso Fetal por Consumo Materno de Drogas Durante el Embarazo

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Fetal abuse is any act that intentionally or negligently damage to the fetus; falls within child abuse.
Material and Methods: Clinical records was reviewed of 180 newborns admitted in the Neonatal care unit of the Hospital Infantil del Estado de Sonora (HIES) newborn had a history of mothers who used drugs during their gestation.
Results: The period of time reviewed was ten years. They were 177 mothers (two twins pregnancy), were attending in the Hospital Integral de la Mujer del Estado de Sonora (HIMES). Mean age of 22.8 years old, 32% were adolescents (≥ 19 years, WHO), 89% were housewives and unemployed, 58% singles, 68% beginning sexual activity before 15 years old, 25% were primiparous, 73% without prenatal medical supervision, 47% with health problems during pregnancy, 77% with smoking and alcoholism. The most used drugs (alone or combined) were 69% Crystal, 35% Cocaine and 34% Marijuana, 79% of the couples use drugs. They were 180 newborns, 51% males and 49% females. 73% was delivered vaginally and 27% by cesarean section, 41% had problems at birth. 27% was premature, 27% with low birth weight. 43% of the newborns have health problems. 11% with Hepatitis C, 8% Congenital Syphilis, there were no HIV positive cases, 6% had congenital malformations (congenital heart disease, Down syndrome, hypotonic child, microcephalia, dysmorphic syndrome), 3% withdrawal syndrome. 98% were will discharged and 4 died by early sepsis and his complications
Conclusions: Drug use by pregnant women may alter the physical and neurobehavioral of the newborn, whose extent and severity depend on the substance, timing and degree of addiction.
